Please share your ideas with the community, and contribute by voting and commenting on other ideas – the more votes the more influence! We consider all ideas when planning future work. Please write in English. For support, please contact your school/organization.

  1. As we review all ideas it may take some time before they appear. Unfortunately we cannot comment on all ideas.
  2. Please search for your idea first and vote for it! Do not create new suggestions if they already exist. It reduces your influence.
  3. Unclear or inappropriate suggestions are removed. We may combine your ideas with similar ideas.
  4. We only use the information you share for the purposes of improving itslearning. We want to keep the ideas portal dynamic and relevant, to do this we remove older suggestions.
    • Ideas that have no public engagement after three years, that were not selected for development, are removed.
    • Ideas older than three years and not selected for implementation are removed.
    • Ideas can be resubmitted at any time.

Student ability to create Microsoft Online documents within itslearning to submit assignments

Now that teachers can create Microsoft files directly in itslearning, we were wondering if students could be given the same ability within an assignment. Could we allow students to click on an option when answering an assignment that would allow them to create a blank Word, Powerpoint, or Excel document to complete and submit? 

 

This would be helpful for our distance learners who could have varying word processing tools. It would also help with students with Chromebooks... Being able to create documents inside of itslearning could move some Google Classroom users into the LMS full-time.

    Lieber Its-Admin,

    ich würde gerne wissen, warum die Schülerinnen selber kein MS-Office Datei erstellen dürfen? Wir können natürlich für alle Schülerinnen eine Kopie erstellen. Allerdings ist es eigentlich eine Blockierung, dass die Schülerinnen selber nichts produzieren können. Gib es für das Problem eine Lösung oder Update?

    When Office Online is enabled by your system administrator, teachers can add an Office file to an assignment and make a copy of the file as basis for their student's answers. Students work on the Office documents directly in itslearning, the implementation of Office Online is freely available and does not require a Microsoft account.

    Teachers can also add Office documents from their private OneDrive or, if your organisation has Office 365 Education, from Teams and SharePoint.

    Hi, just want to give you a quick update on the Office Online work. We’re almost ready to release support for Office Online templates for assignments. When Office Online is enabled by the system administrator (Edit Global Settings>>Cloud Services>>Office Online), it will soon be possible to make a copy of a selected Office file (docx, pptx, xlsx) for each student to fill inn and submit. A similar functionality is already available for Google documents when a G Suite domain is connected.

    Sorry to say that it did not make it for this year’s back to school. Adding support for students to create Office Online documents is still on our to do list. We’re currently planning and prioritizing development work for the autumn, winter and spring. When this is done we’ll update the roadmap :-)

    This would be especially helpful for handouts. Google Classroom allows a similar feature ... with an option for all students to work together on one document or for each student to work on their own document.
