Multiple customers have asked for a possibilty for administrators to view (and delete) instant messages between students. Currently inappropriate messages can only be deleted by the sender. Users should be able to flag/report messages so administrators can investigate and (if necessary) delete those messages.

For use in the university sector it is crucial that an administrator can completely delete a message from the system, for GDPR reasons.
Some students may by mistake use the message system for sensitive personal data. It is not usefil that a teacher (any teacher) can hide the message.
We need to be able to set up exactly which roles can delete messages, and that messages can be deleted from the system in a way so that they cannot be recreated.
For me as a teacher it’s only possible to report abuse, but not to delete any of my own messages. I guess students can’t either? Does it have something to do with the country, as the idea was from a Dutch user?
Learning is social, but sometimes the same tools that allow for crucial communication are misused. To combat this, and to make sure itslearning remains inclusive and supportive, we’ve made some improvements to our messaging safety. Now, we’ve enabled the ability for students to “report” an abusive comment. Teachers are then alerted and can take appropriate action. Students can also block other students who have posted abusive messages. For now, this feature is by default disabled. Please reach out to your itslearning support contact to have it enabled.
This is a MUST for any messaging system that is used by young adults due to Safeguarding and PREVENT risks. For a messaging system to be released without this functionality is in my personal opinion a bit premature.
Tend to agree, but must be implemeted in a way so that it is not too easy to report a message. And, i the feature should be possible to switch off and on at site or school level and it should be configurable who receives the reports.
