Bring back the student view Merged

In the old interface, there was a button for Student View, where you could preview materials that were posted from the student perspective and our teachers utilized this heavily.  The new interface does not offer this option.  We have had to create fake student accounts, verify them, add them to curses, etc.  Then once we have done all that, the teachers have to log into another browser, access its and input the fake credentials and toggle back and forth to see what students see.  Very clunky and time consuming.

    Admin response

    Hi,

The old student view feature is not coming back, at least not in the way it was. A couple of reasons for this:

    • It worked fine as a read only view, but when teachers started solving tasks as a student, e.g. by taking test, it did not work good enough.
    • the differences between the student and teacher view are now so small that we believe the need for a student view feature is more or less gone. I’ve attached a couple of screenshots to exemplify (course Overview: students have “Tasks” and teachers have “Follow-up tasks”, the rest is the same)

We are continuously making enhancements to itslearning based on user feedback, and if it turns out that the lack of a student view is a major problem we will of cause look into it.

Btw: I use multiple user accounts every day; my tip is to either use private mode in your browser when you need to be logged in with multiple user accounts at the same time, or just log out with user A and open a new tab in your browser and log in with user B. Please notes that your local security settings and log on method may influence what’s possible.

I see many teachers who miss that Student View option. In this way it will be much easier to overview if material is activated or deactivated and it would be possible to print assignments without the student list attached. The teachers in our organization does not have the ability to create multiple user accounts. I see it as a major problem that the button is missing in the new design!
