Support for HEIC image format

Students often submit images in HEIC format. These are not shown within the app. Please add support for these images within the app.

Are these students submitting from the Photo Library (or taking a photo directly)? If so, HEIC files are - also as assignment answer - uploaded as JPEG. Browsing for photos on the device another way will upload the image in its original format. This is standard iOS behaviour. Hope this helps!

A specific place is when students submit a photo for an 'opdracht'. I think if they use an iPhone, the image format is HEIC. I cannot expect them to first convert it to some other format. It would be very convenient if I could see and judge the image directly, and not have to download it and open it in an external application.

The HEIC format currently is not supported by browsers (https://caniuse.com/?search=heic). When you upload a resource to itslearning and choose 'Photo Library' (or you take a photo then and there), the image is uploaded as JPG so it can be displayed.

Is there a specific place it itslearning where this is not working for you? If so, we can take that into consideration.

In my opinion itslearning should try to modernize as all other technology does. The HEIC format is often used nowadays and should be implemented quickly in itslearning to quicken the teachers’ workflow.

    Hi.

Thanks for the idea. We will share it with the relevant teams. We will keep the suggestion on the ideas portal to see if it gets more ‘up votes’. This helps us understand which ideas are most popular.

    Thanks,

    The itslearning Product Team.
