I would like to share some feedback and feature requests from those of us who teach distance-learning courses, particularly in mathematics.
For distance education, the messaging function is not just a communication tool. It is an essential part of teaching, guidance, feedback, and student support. Many of our interactions with students take place through messages, making this function critical for the learning experience.
We would like to suggest the following improvements:
A larger writing and viewing area within messages. The current message window is quite limited, making it difficult to write, read, and review longer explanations, instructions, and feedback.
The ability to paste screenshots directly into messages instead of having to upload them as attachments and open them separately. In mathematics, screenshots are frequently used to discuss solutions, formulas, graphs, and calculations.
An out-of-office message feature where teachers can provide a short notice during vacations or other absences. At the same time, the possibility to inform students who they should contact when their regular teacher is unavailable.
These improvements would have a significant impact on distance education. For many of our students, the messaging system is their primary point of contact with their teacher. Better communication tools would improve accessibility, efficiency, and the overall student experience.

Hi and thanks for sharing your idea!
They are all good, but improvements to instant messaging aren’t currently on our roadmap, so we can’t confirm if or when they may be addressed. We’ll however keep your ideas in mind when we revisit the tool in the future.
Thanks,
the itslearning Product team
