For test tool 2.0, it was possible to view a list of unsubmitted attempts for a test and then unfold each unsubmitted attempt real-time to see how the students were doing, e.g. to identify any shared misconceptions and catch them while the students were doing the test.
Test tool 3.0 only shows a list of names + how many questions each student has answered.
Test tool 2.0 was much better for formative testing in this regard. Please bring the option of following unsubmitted attempts back.

Hi
Thanks for your input. We do have plans to go back and improve some of the existing pages and functionality in the new test tool, the list of submissions/ongoing attempts being one of those. Our first priority on this page is to allow deletion of ongoing attempts, but we're also considering extending the available information.
Thanks,
The itslearning Product team
