I need to be able to add to the planners as I go. If I have a planner copied into multiple courses and across multiple teachers' classrooms that collaborate, I need the planner to update automatically in all locations without republishing. The current method to get planners updated in multiple locations is not friendly.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Planner.
We’re working on enhancing the Planner.
A shareable Planner is currently being piloted, and we'll release it as soon as it’s possible to share all the content in the Planner (e.g. assignments and tests). A shareable plan can be update in any course you've added it to. The changes to the content can be done in the course itself. It's also possible to disconnect a plan from its shared instance.
Please follow the roadmap for the statuses on major deliveries like the shareable Planner: http://www.itslearning.eu/roadmap
While waiting for a shareable Planner, please have a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op23Efqqd38
Best regards

This would need a "link" function or something in that case. I think there are plenty teachers (me included) that use similar plans (same course) but different groups so they do slightly different. These plans need to be copied and separate, not linked..
I thought that will be a option in the future!
It should be possible to save the planner in the library, that way we could update across different subjects.
