Redesign the home screen

Hello,

I've had some ideas on how to improve the usability, intuitiveness and visual quality of the homescreen. To visualize my ideas i have made a mockup which i have attached. Sadly it is in german but i will try to describe my ideas in english here.

The first change i made is the move from two homescreens to one. This was made to improve the intuivity of navigation and to have everything you need on one page.

The page now consists of three columns.

The left column is the "Upcoming"-column ("Anstehend" in german). Here the student is able to see every upcoming event, sorted chronologically. This is done so that the student can easily identify what will be the next thing on his schedule, regardless of it beeing a task or fe. a video-conference.

The middle column contains the updates from the individual courses. Notice that it marks tasks ("Aufgabe") with a red box and clearly shows when their due. Tasks also have their own preview of their contents (previously only announcements had this) which makes it easier for the student, to identify what they have to do. I also added a direct download button to the attached file, so that one could skip the preview and directly download a file, which should reduce friction when working with files. Another thing i added is the ability for teachers to attach a link to an online meeting directly to a task, which should make managing these a little easier.

The right column is the overview of the courses. They are now sorted in a list, which i find easier to intuitively navigate than a cluser of squares. They show a red dot on the top right which indicates how many tasks are left to do.

Generally i have changed the colors to be more saturated, which helps to distiguish them from one another. Also, the colors show up more prominent in announcements, tasks, upcoming events and the courses. This helps to give each course a little more consistency and a little more character. It would also be great if students could change the colors to their tastes.

I obviously do not expect this to be added 1:1 into ItsLearning but i hope it transfers some ideas of mine on how to make ItsLearning a little easier to use.

    Hi.

Thanks for the idea. We will share it with the relevant teams and also keep the suggestion on the ideas portal to see if it gets more ‘up votes’. This helps us understand which ideas are most popular.

    Thanks,
    The itslearning Product Team.
