As an Athena administrator, I receive ALL messages as a teacher on courses
sends. I can actually get rid of it by removing myself
from the courses when they are created, but it would be difficult when I need to
help teachers (add students, among others).
Announcements are not a problem, but Messages, because I.
then get an email that says "NN sent you messages 5 min ago" even if
it was a mass mailing to everyone on the course. Then I can not like
administrator determine if it is personal to me (ie requires action).
I WANT to receive emails about new messages in Athena because I am not
logged in to Athena all the time, so I do not want to turn off the feature.
Result: I get lots of messages, especially at the start of the course, which
I have to read (because it CAN be important) but that usually does not touch
me.
Suggested solution:
Alt 1) Change the email depending on whether it is personal or
mass mailing, it could say "NN sent you a group message" or
"NN sent a message to you" to clarify.
Option 2) Provide the option of selectable setting in Athena to include
messages directly in the email (ie generate an email based on
message), instead of having to log in to Athena to be able to
read it."

Hi
Thanks for your input! What you describe sounds reasonable, but not something we are currently planning to change. We'll leave the idea open for voting to understand the need for this feature.
Thanks,
