Updated e-portfolio

I am currently researching student engagement and agency and think that itselarnings e-portfolio where a student can design a profile and track his or her own learning, development and growth in a personalized and creative manner is great. This tool should definitely be updated to meet modern students' expectations and a part of itslearning in the future. Maybe collaborating with a third party tool would be a good option?

    UPDATE:

The ePortfolio have seen several improvements since my last update. We’ve planned more updates moving forward, more about that later.

The main updates relate to file handling and making the presentation of the portfolios a better experience. Transferring content from the working portfolio to the ePortfolio has become easier, with several enhancements to make it more intuitive, fewer clicks and more flexibility. In the process of adding content to the portfolio, the rich-text editor is now available, so that students have more possibilities to reflection on their work. Students can now download a copy of all their portfolios at once, straight from the Portfolios page. When exporting a portfolio, the file names of attachments are now kept in the exported zip-file. This applies both to when exporting a single portfolio, or all the portfolios at once. Please have a look here for more details: https://itslearning.com/global/rn-release-notes-104/

Mowing forward we’re planning to make it easier to create a new portfolio and to find content in courses directly from the Portfolio. We want you to be able to customise the top banner to make themes and make it easier for you to see which portfolios are private and which are shared.

Thanks for contributing to the ideas portal. When we compare the brand new itslearning design that was releases this summer with the ePortfolio, well…I have to agree that the ePortfolio seems a bit outdated.

We are working on implementing the new itslearning design in more areas of itslearning. Although the ePortfolio has great features today, there are things we really would like to improve (and some we just would like to remove). So far we have had to prioritize more used areas of itslearning, but we have the ePortfolio in the pipeline but I can’t promise you when will start enhancing it.

Earlier this summer we released a couple nice enhancements to the ePortfolio:

    • Support for teachers and students to create Files directly in the Working portfolio.
    • Students can now also transfer a copy of Files from their Working portfolio to the Assessment portfolio.
    • It is now possible - like it was for the old assignment tool - to transfer assignment answers from the working portfolio to the assessment portfolio. For answers written in the Rich Text editor, a HTML file will be created. This is also the case for feedback, if provided by the teacher.
    • Students can now decide if comments should be allowed on the content they publish in their portfolios. Disabling the comments will make them invisible in the UI and management interface.
    • The Site administrator can now set if About me and Blog should be available all ePortfolios. This is set at the bottom of the page in Admin > Edit global settings > Features and security.

In the next release (28/7) you’ll see a couple of nice updates:

    • If Office Online is enabled (done by your sys adm), teachers and students can now create Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents directly in the Working portfolio. These documents can also be transferred to the assessment portfolio.
    • We’re also updating the file uploader in the Working Portfolio.

I agree! Students and teachers also wants it to be mobile friendly with the possibility to upload pictures to make mobile learning easier.

I agree with Sarah and Daniel. It would be great to align the new UX with outdated ePortfolio and Blog (+ more sharp templates).

I agree with Sarah the ePortfolio tool looks to be quite dated and doesn't really match the interface anymore, maybe revamp this feature to give a better UX and more flexibility with what can be done and from where. I know that companies such as OneFile have amazing ePortfolios and competing in this market may help sales to training providers.
