Here’s my #1 BIGGEST NEED: itslearning CANNOT be the owner of these Make a Copy template Google docs. The doc owner should by all rights be the kid, but it would also work to make me the default owner. But IL as doc owner limits us in all kinds of ways re: doc sharing. I still haven’t played around w the Peer Review function like I need to, but I want to be able to add, share, collaborate on Google Docs the way you can when you or a kid own the doc. The irony is that I first got into Google Docs specifically for that shared capability for Peer Editing essays and now that’s the one thing I can’t do in IL.
1. Make the kid the default owner of his Make a Copy
2. Baring that, make me the teacher the doc owner
3. At least give me the power to override IL being the doc owner, if that has to be your default
4. Even if IL remains the doc owner, allow teacher + student to share doc and add collaborators with edit access

Hi Lauren, thanks for your feedback.
Regarding the ownership: this is done so a student cannot modify the answer when e.g. the deadline has passed. As for the alternative of making the teacher owner, this is not done because teachers can leave school and we need to ensure student work is kept. I hope you understand and agree.
There are several ways for students and teachers to collaborate on Google docs in itslearning; peer assessment is a powerful one, self-assessment is never wrong and if you want to you can set up a group assignment for students to collaborate on. As soon as the student has started working on a template file in the assignment tool the teacher can start writing feedback in the same file, a nice way to follow up progress and give feedback before the student submits the assignment.
Please try out e.g. peer review and let me know how it works for you and your students.
